Delhi is experiencing a significant upsurge in both Swine Flu and Covid-19 cases. An AIIMS paramedical first-year student died last week due to the new coronavirus and Swine Flu infection. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, very few H1N1 N1 cases were recorded over the past two years. However, more swine flu infections are being detected due to the increase in seasonal flu and influenza cases.

One of the strains of the seasonal flu is the H1N1 flu virus. WHO designated the H1N1 flu pandemic in 2009, which was declared over in August 2010. To prevent swine flu infection, the influenza vaccine is advised.

Additionally, experts from different renowned hospitals have cautioned people and requested to take precautionary measures. They stated that due to COVID-19, the H1N1 flu virus became a rare entity, but currently, a surge is being observed again. Swine Flu cases started increasing in August and would continue till February next year. They said Swine Flu could become severe and fatal in high-risk individuals, like children, the elderly, those with comorbidities, pregnant women, and immunocompromised patients. Hence precautions are necessary which are similar to that of Covid-19 infection. They requested people to undergo the Swine Flu test along with Covid-19 if they experience coughing, severe difficulty breathing, and a decrease in oxygen levels.  (ETHealthWorld, August 17, 2022)
